Specializing in Blue Shih Tzu

When we think of a Shih Tzu or any breed of dog, we usually think of a black nose and a black and white coat or gold and white, red, black, etc. However, Shih Tzu do come in lots of colors including Blue! A blue Shih Tzu is characterized by the pigment on the nose, eye rims, lips and paw pads which is not black or brown, but instead is blue, gray or any hue in between. The blue can be so dark that it looks black. Sometimes, the only way to know if a Shih Tzu is really blue, is to run a test through a lab like Embark, Animal Genetics, Paw Prints, DNA Diagnostics and many others.

I have taken the time to run these color tests on all of my breeding dogs so that I have a really good idea of the expected colors of my litters. I’m fascinated by the study of genetics, and I take every opportunity to learn more.
